Everyone can experiences skin complications and diseases, but these skin complications are experienced more by patients suffering from diabetes and type 2 diabetes. These patients are more likely to suffer with the various bacterial infections listed below:

  • Eyelid gland infections such as styes
  • Boils
  • Hair follicle infections such as folliculitis
  • Deep skin and underlying tissue infections such as carbuncles

Another problem that can result in skin complications for patients suffering from diabetes and type 2 diabetes is atherosclerosis. Increased levels of sugar in the blood normally narrow blood vessels which mean blood doesn't circulate properly to some skin areas. This causes these areas to shine, have no hair and they are usually thin and cool. When some patients exercise, they endure pain in their calf muscles and this is because of poor flow of blood. Poor blood circulation leads to insufficient oxygen which in turn slows down the healing process.

Tiny wounds on the skin in areas where there's poor blood circulation may lead to more serious infections. The majority of patients suffering from atherosclerosis become numb in these areas of the skin and can hardly feel it when they are scratched or bruised so this could lead to more serious skin infections and complications.

Patients with increased levels of sugar in their blood are most likely to develop eruptive where the skin appears to be yellow, firm, and pea-like. The swellings are normally red and itchy. Patients suffering from type 1 diabetes are the ones who commonly experience this skin complication.

Diabetes and type 2 diabetes patients normally experience a variety of skin complications. They should make a point of controlling the levels of sugar in their blood to avoid experiencing these complications.
