Hypothyroid or low thyroid can have a devastating effect. Thyroid hormone is an activating factor for your metabolism and is an integral part of your endocrine system. The thyroid gland impacts every part of your body, so hypothyroid symptoms can be wide ranging. The list below provides some of the more evident problems caused by low thyroid levels:

1. Increased Weight Gain
2. Constipation
3. Diarrhea
4. Fatigue
5. Morning Headaches
6. Increased Sensitivity to the Cold
7. Numbness and Tingling in Hands and Feet
8. Excessive Sleeping
9. Digestive Problems
10. Dry Skin that is Itchy
11. Weak Immune System with Inability to Recover
12. Depression
13. Muscle Cramps While Resting
14. Dry Brittle Hair
15. Hair that Falls out Easily
16. Outside Edge of Eyebrows Falls Out
17. Decreased Body Temperature

Now that you know what the possible hypothyroid symptoms are, it's important to know what to do about it. For many people this is where their problems really begin. The current standard test to check the thyroid is TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). If your doctor runs this test and your numbers come back within the laboratory range, you'll be told that there's nothing wrong and nothing that can be done for you.

The problem here is that the laboratory range and the healthy functional range are two very different things. In other words, you could be within the hospital laboratory range and be well outside of what is considered the healthy functional range for a normal person. You could be having all the hypothyroid symptoms and be told that you're fine if you are not outside the hospital laboratory range. So what can you do?
